Bring a sample in a clean bottle, filled elbow-deep away from a return jet. We test chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabilizer, and salt, then write out what to add, how much, and in what order. No purchase needed.

Use a clean bottle (a rinsed water bottle is fine). Reach in elbow-deep, away from a return jet and the skimmer, and fill it. Bring it in the same day if you can; a sample left in a hot car for two days isn't your pool anymore.
If you're on weekly service, your tech tests every visit. If you're doing it yourself, test chlorine and pH at least twice a week in summer, and bring a sample to the store monthly for the full panel (alkalinity, calcium, stabilizer, salt).
Coachella Valley tap water is hard, and every time the pool evaporates and you top it off, the calcium stays behind and the new water adds more. It climbs year over year. Managing it means keeping pH in line, and every few years, a partial drain and refill.

Yesterday was our first visit to The Pool Store to pick up some chlorine tablets for a neighbor who was out of town. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman and he helped us find the tablets that we needed. I spotted a cute battery operated fish swimming toy which I inquired about if it was fun for kids, and he was enthusiastic about this $24 toy so we added it to our purchase. Without asking, he threw in a discount which was unexpected. Who does that?!!! There was another gentleman there that he was helping who praised the sales guy and said he’s been shopping there for years and trusted them completely. Just an overall really great customer service experience which is not easy to come by in this day and age. We love shopping local, so if we need anything for our pool this will be our first stop!
The Pool Store Team was supper helpful. They guided us into the correct sized Glazier Pool Cooler. And boy does it work. Our pool was down to 82 degrees in 2 days. The air temp was 101 so it felt amazing. We should have done this years ago. The Pool Store team installed the unit a day early (always nice) and made a follow up call to make sure we knew how to operate the unit. Thumbs up and cheers.
